2. yank a device, yank two??
   • insert one back, get to work
   • what kind of reaction?
   • what kind of notice?
   • corruption?
3. cut power
   • just machine
   • whole battery
4. S.M.A.R.T. status
5. switch to lesser OS version
6. switch to same or future OS
7. switch OS flavor
8. switch mdadm drivers or versions
   • ext3 fs drivers
