Description

Supporting and Engineering large-scale technical solutions on linux systems for fortune 500 clients such as LinkedIn.com, Myspace.com, USArmy, Nintendo, VMWare, SAIC and cloud providers such as Rackspace.com and Hosting.com. Some systems contained 10,000 server nodes, and hundreds of millions of datapoints. A team and I helped Clients analyze, design, integrate, implement, and administer large monitoring and assurance platforms with Zenoss and other open source software. Customer-elation was a key success factor.

  • Rated 42nd fastest growing company, and 3rd Fastest software company in the country by Inc. Magazine. I had a hand in this!

Manage, upgrade, engineer, and administer current and future UMBC Graduate School information systems, business processes, department IT needs, and user IT needs. The role involved working with 200+ fellow workers, supporting 30+ departmental workers, 2000+ applicants (customers), ~20 major integrated systems, and an application system that costs $50,000+ per year to run.

Key Business Contributions

  • Created policies and systems to help increase incoming student population by 30%
  • Assisted in creating a dozen new programs to bring in a diverse new set of customers
  • Spearheaded and implemented idea for variable pricing on Internet submissions, leading to cost-savings and enhanced user experience
  • Requisitioned for multiple student employee positions, then hired and administered the positions to successfully expand the departments IT abilities and goals
  • Ran a no-longer-supported vendor solution for 2 years beyond contract - allowing dept. budgets to stretch beyond normal capacity, and give time to roll in new campus-wide ERP software
  • Creator of a then-new style of webpage self-editing (wiki cms), that allowed us to attract and bring in a leading Dean of Engineering and IT, who in turn exploded UMBCs online IT masters program revenue.

  • Inventory Upgrade - Upgrade and complete reinstallation of the entire Graduate School computer fleet; Over 30 computers were meticulously cleaned, swapped around, upgraded, and OS‘s reinstalled

Working for the campus architect, I was assigned web and specialty IT tasks, including a self-directed system implementation for inventorying classrooms on the web. PHP, Oracle, autoCAD, and technical documentation creation were handled. Involvement and cooperation with 20+ employees, and 8+ departments.

  • CollegeNETs R25 software was used to engineer and developed a homegrown add-on interface that involved integrating inventory data to an existing web interface; system design and implementation for 70+ classrooms; the system is still in use today
  • Design of web site templates using various content creation applications (FrontPage, Imageready, Notepad)
  • Use of Oracle DBMS, HTML, and PHP along with creation of system documentation manual
  • Involvement and cooperation with 20+ employees, and 8+ departments
