Following are tests to check the quality and safe destructability of the RAID in bad situations.

  - grow, shrink, size (get device, add it to, remove)
  - yank a device, yank two??
    * insert one back, get to work
    * what kind of reaction?
    * what kind of notice?
    * corruption?
  - cut power
    * just machine
    * whole battery
  - S.M.A.R.T. status
  - switch to lesser OS version
  - switch to same or future OS
  - switch OS flavor
  - switch mdadm drivers or versions
    * ext3 fs drivers
